Hard Core Pawn

My friend Marlene was recently in town from her home in Phoenix, and she loves to watch the TV show, Hard Core Pawn. She absolutely had to see the store while she was here, so I took her for a visit.

The place is about what you would expect from seeing the TV show and it even gave me some ideas on what to do with things we get from jobs. Unfortunately we didn't see any of the main characters from the show. Disappointingly, no one acted crazy and got thrown out! Dang! We really wanted to see that:)

I took a picture of her at the entrance, and she was too shy to ask, but I requested the bouncers to take a picture with her. These guys were HUGE! Nearly 7 ft tall each. Marlene almost disappeared into them. They were surprisingly friendly. I guess when you tower over everyone, you have to be really nice to keep from scaring them away!

Computer Recycling

For our customers with boat anchors, otherwise known as computers that have outlived their useful lives, we strip down and recycle them for the precious metals and to keep toxic materials out of the landfills.

The picture below is a pile of circuit boards from computers and telecom systems. After removing them, we sell them to a refiner who reuses the materials.

Shelving Gets New Life

Do you know what the single most thrown away item from any home is? In my experience, it seems to be shelving.

Do you know how much shelving costs? The units pictured here are $50 each at your local big box store. For that reason, I just can't see myself throwing them away, so sometimes I find myself buried under shelving units! When I get too many, I throw them on Craigslist for 10 bucks each. I had a very happy mom come and pick up all that I had the other day as she was organizing her kid's playroom.

I love it when I can keep stuff out of the landfill, and make moms happy at the same time!
